It's not been easy to find airlines and flight routes tha suit the dates and times of Mongol 100 trip.
I've decided on the following for me:
Outbound

Turkish Airlines
- London Gatwick to Istanbul
- Istanbul to Ulaanbataar
Ulaanbataar arrives 07.15 which leaves plenty time for the internal flight to Murun.
If there's a cheap hotel nearby, I'm minded to take a room for a nap and freshen uip for the event.
2 nights accomodation in Ulaanbataar allowing 1 day for sight seeing.
Prefered hotel, Lake Khovsgul Hotel not available unfortunately so 2 nights at UB Grand
